Soap Making for All Ages
Are looking for new ways to let out your creative side? Most people are tired doing drawing, painting or doing woodworks as these are very common things that are done by a lot of people. One such hobby that is surely not getting a lot of attention is soap making. This is a great activity that will help you release your artistic side and it is not being done by a lot of people.
Soap making is very easy to learn and there are two ways that you can choose to make your soap. You may start from the beginning and use oil and lye to make your basic soap. You may also choose to use glycerin soap, which will be much easier as it is already ready made and all you will have to do is melt it down so that you can proceed to designing your soap.
Making your own soap definitely has its advantages even though it will take longer to make. You will be able to control the intrinsic properties of your soap by altering the type and amounts of oil that you put into the soap mixture. You may make harder soaps that are better for sculpting, or milder soaps if you plan to use in on your body. Glycerin soap on the other hand, will be a lot easier especially if you want to focus on designing your soap only.
One downside to making your own soap is that it involves handling lye, which is a very dangerous substance. It is very corrosive when comes into contact with bare skin, and it also emits fumes when dissolved in water. This can be very irritating to one's lungs. Be sure to always wear protective equipment when handling lye. As for children, using glycerin soap may be a better option.
After you have made your basic soap mixture, you can them proceed to designing your soap. The most basic techniques involve altering the color of your soap and using molds to give your soap a definite shape. You may also use knives to sculpt your soap and give it a more personal touch while it has not yet fully hardened.
You may try different ways of designing your soap. You may try making well known structures such as the statue of liberty in making your soap, although this would require a very high level of skill. You may also choose to do simpler designs such as animals and food items. You may also combine smaller soaps to come up with a better overall design.
Because soap making is a very easy hobby to do, children can also take this up as a way to pass the time. They will definitely enjoy creating their own soaps that they may use in the bathroom when showering. Just be sure that they are always supervised lest they cause an accident and injure themselves when making soap.
Soap making is a very fun hobby that people of all ages will definitely enjoy. This is a great way to pass the time especially if you are the creative type who wants to make something with their hands. This is also very practical as you can use your soaps after you have made them, or you can also display them in your bathroom to make it look better.
