The basic chemistry behind soap making revolves around saponification. This process involves the formation of fatty acids by mixing fats and oils in an alkali medium. The fatty acid salts make the soaps an effective cleaning agent. As the soaps trap the dirt, it will be removed from the body. The dirt mixture is washed off with water, leaving a cleaner surface.

The melt and pour method is the easiest since there is already a mixed soap base that you just have to melt.
One characteristic that handmade soaps are known for is that these are gentle on the skin. You do not have to use all harsh chemicals in the soap. You also know every single ingredient that you put in your soap bars. Superfatting makes these soaps very gentle on the skin. The addition of excess fats and oils in the soap mixture makes these soaps safe for the skin.
