Freeware Games : Do Not Invest, Just Play

by Aiden Zamora

Guess what? If you really enjoy the old arcade games of the past, and you're a fan of computer games, you will be thrilled to discover that many of these older games (and newer ones too) are actually available for free. For the sake of this article, we will show you the difference between freeware games and "abandonware". We will also provide a list of other older games which can be played for free.

Several old arcade games available for play are freeware kind of games. As anyone can play these games for free without having to pay anything, they are called freeware games. These freeware games were made available to general public as their creators wanted all others to enjoy them. Sometimes, players can also make some voluntary donations for the benefit of the creator of a freeware game, though it is not mandatory.

Some games may be listed as freeware, but are actually "trialware". Trialware allows you to use the software for a trial limit, usually 30 to 60 days, without paying for the software's use. When the trial period ends, the software locks up, so you must either pay to continue using it, or stop using it. This is how many companies let you try their games for a short time to decide if you like it.

Another category is known as abandonware. This is a murky gray area in copyright. Abandonware is software that is so old that it has been abandoned by its makers. In fact, many times the company involved is no longer in business. Sometimes it is possible to download software classified as abandonware without any legal repercussions.

At last, you can find a lot of online games which you can play for free. Those games are as-supported, that means that a company has bought this game and earns money by the mean of advertising. Adventure online games is on of many examples of multiplayer online games that are freeware (you can play them for free without having to buy them).

Gamers do not need to spend lots of money in order to enjoy their favorite games. Many of the classic games are available online for free. There are a growing number of games being released that are either free or ad-supported. Spend a little time searching for these free games and you'll be able to enjoy your favorite games while saving a lot of money.

Computer gamers can find games for free on the internet through freeware, trialware, abandonware, and ad-supported sites. Freeware games can include old arcade games and other games where designers make their games available for free in the public domain - sometimes in exchange for donations. Trialware is free for a limited trial period, whereupon the user will have to either buy the game or stop playing. Abandonware is very old software abandoned by its creators, and is therefore at times downloadable with no legal repercussions. Finally, ad-supported sites generate revenues through advertising, while players - say of adventure online games - can play for free.
